Our Research Room – open to members and non members  (but nothing can be borrowed, we are not a library in that respect) is located on the First Floor of the Literary Institute in Egham High St (Ground Floor is Strodes College).

The First Floor contains both The Egham Museum (admission is free to all) and the Local Studies/Research Room. Please note that access is only by stairs in this listed building. Open Tuesday, Thursday,(10am to 12.30pm, 2 to 4.30pm) and  Saturday morning (10am to 12.30pm)

There is a wide range of documents and pictures which might help you but it may depend on what you are seeking. We don’t have records covering every year but do have

  • books of local interest
  • newspapers
  • maps
  • rate books
  • electoral rolls
  • parish registers and churchyard inscriptions
  • wills transcripts and indexes
  • photographs
  • census returns for the local area from 1841 to 1901.

As we are unpaid volunteers we can give help and advice but are unable to carry out extensive research for anyone. We would encourage people to come and use the facilities and are prepared to help whenever possible.

If you intend to come and look for someone or something, please bring as much information with you regarding dates, place, names; it sounds basic but having these details can save a lot of time.
